For many years I have read through the book of Proverbs every month, and yes much of it I have committed to memory through the simple principle of repetition.
One might ask, don’t you get tired of reading the same thing over and over? My answer would be in all honesty, occasionally yes.
But on most occasions the wisdom and truths throughout, are ones that I find applicable to today and the present. The same solid truths of wisdom and understanding that have been taught for ages and relative to life in any age or era.
This book of 31 chapters holds the keys to all things black and white, or light and dark, if you will.
And since we are in a spiritual battle, I choose to know and recognize my enemy as well as those in Gods army fighting the battle along-side me. Discernment of those truths is vitally important to Gods people and more of us ought to care to know them.
In the book of James we read:
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed”. James 1:5-6
God does and will give his children wisdom. Sometimes we have a specific need to take to him in prayer. We are to ask his help for all things that will keep our decisions and life choices in line with his will.
But I fear that many times we run to him for answers he has already provided very specifically within those 31 chapters. But that would mean we would have to study to find them.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”. 2 Timothy 2:15
We live in an age of haste and confusion. Why would we want to study, couldn’t we just google it? Beware google is not for our God and will not lead you to truth. Enough said of that for now. That is a subject for a latter post.
Anyway as I look at the world through eyes of wisdom, I can see the line in the sand. Black and white are clearer to me because of the book of Proverbs.
It allows me to have good judgement and discernment into the workings of things in our world system, into peoples lives, motives and schemes.
By the way, it also allows me to see Gods children, the children of light stand out more easily against the dark backdrop of the world. It is important for us to be able to identify one another in these these times we are living in.
We are not the majority and we must know these truths to identify those who are working for our Lord and Savior.
Today I would challenge anyone of you who wants to be able to be ready and armed for the battle ahead to begin reading through the book of Proverbs every month for the next year.
One chapter per day is not a lot to ask. A year of your life could change your understanding, wisdom and perception.
Look what he has done for you!! Make time, care enough to discern. Find a pocket of time, pray and read what God wants his people to know to arm themselves for warfare.
You can either draw a line in the sand or hide your head in the sand. Discern or be deceived. See black and white or live in that gray area where lines are not defined. That is where the enemy wants you.
What can you do to proactively work to be able to know truth and not be deceived in the world we live in? Are you willing to give up 30 minutes of your day on social media, to study Gods word?
