Our last of the 5 design principles is harmony.
Harmony surrounds us on many levels. Through all of the 5 senses given to man we experience it.
We see, hear, touch, taste and smell harmony. We don’t give it much consideration until it hits a sour note.
Those of us who have hearing, understand the sounds of harmony. It is those sounds that are blended in such beautiful tone to cause a unity and pleasantness.
We most often think of harmony in reference to music, but harmony can be heard and seen as well in nature.
Sit by a cool brook on a spring day and watch and listen, as the pleasing sounds of the water blend with the rustling of the leaves in a breeze. Birds sing to add to the harmony and the blue of the sky is accented with puffy white clouds drifting softly along. All of this is harmony and pleasing and restful.
Any element out-of-place in the unity of design, surroundings, etc. will affect its Harmony.
It can be a screaming child at an event such as a wedding. A bag of garbage tossed into an otherwise beautiful natural setting.
Environments that surround us in our daily lives have visual rhythm and sound, some pleasing and some not so pleasing. We can not control many of those environments. So we can only work on those that we can.
When I start my day I try to sort out my plans with an intended purpose. But I also recognize that unexpected things happen, that can and may affect the harmony of my day.
We will need to adjust, reorder and balance those elements to bring harmony back.
Inconveniences can sometimes interrupt our harmony. That is why it is important to be purposed with flexibility. Being flexible allows us to bend and flow through difficulties faster and regain harmony in the situation.
It may sound strange in a world that thinks planning and schedules is everything, but I have learned through all my life of planning, that sometimes the plan doesn’t go the way I planned.
Being Purposed with flexibility really makes for the best plan.
How do we live each day, each moment, in a state of harmony? Even when the tone of the day, or the rhythm of the day changes?
Harmony is a beautiful blend of all things that are pleasing and easy on the spirit. We have spoken of harmony in relationship to our physical senses, but there is harmony of our spirit, that needs equal time for consideration.
Most people would agree that their understanding of what heaven must be like, is a perfect picture of all things in harmony. Most people are correct! That is exactly what it is and will always be.
But for now, we are not what we will be. The place we travel before we can get there we travel in flesh bodies, there, only spirit bodies reside.
You will hear it, if you listen. It will speak rest and peace within you when balance and harmony are in place. It will beckon you to change and adjust elements when it is uncomfortable.
Call it a conscience if you wish, but you can not ignore it. If you listen it will guide you into harmony, where both of you can reside at peace.
What about your life feels like it is in harmony? What is not in harmony and how can you help to bring harmony back to that situation?
